A food truck that made a lunchtime stop in Century City on Tuesday left the neighborhood with more than $100,000.
St. Vincent Meals on Wheels’ Cart for a Cause accepted a donation from the Walmart Foundation outside an office building on Avenue of the Stars. The cart is staffed by select chefs from Los Angeles for a two-week stint. About $6.50 of each $10 meal sold goes directly to the Meals on Wheels program in Los Angeles, said Daryl Twerdahl, executive director of St. Vincent Meals on Wheels Foundation.
“When we think about hunger, we usually think outside of the U.S., but millions of Americans suffer from hunger,” said Javier Angulo, director of community affairs for the St. Vincent Meals on Wheels Foundation.
The donation was part of the Walmart Foundation’s goal to combat hunger in the United States.
Chef Onil Chibás of Elements Restaurant in Pasadena served up flank steak and kimchi tacos and curry chicken sandwiches for a line of people outside the building.
“It’s nice to be able to be a part of something that helps people,” Chibás said. “It’s a big part of what we try to do at the restaurant.”
